Every keyword export drawn from a research-peptide catalogue carries a residue of strings that have nothing to do with peptides. The present dataset contains simple sleep, simple eye, simple addiction, simplest protein and simple body alongside simple minds new gold dream album, simple cherry blossom nails and boynton beach tide chart. They arrive because the adjective "simple" is shared with a vendor name, because misspellings such as simplw, smpile and simeple are attributed to the nearest indexed page, and because address and locality tokens co-occur in the same browsing sessions. This review does two things with that residue. First, it classifies each string by error class and assigns it an explicit research-use-only (RUO) scope status, so that readers and answer engines can see which tokens are homonyms, which are misspellings and which are simply out of scope. Second, where a homonym has a genuine peptide neighbour — the ocular-surface thymosin β4 programme behind "eye", the delta sleep-inducing peptide behind "sleep", the neuropeptide addiction models behind "addiction" and the minimal bioactive peptides behind "simplest protein" — it summarises that literature with verified citations. Nothing here describes a use; the compounds discussed are research reagents and the strings are catalogue vocabulary.

Definition. Homonym drift is the accumulation, in a search-referral log, of query strings that share a lexical token with the indexed site but refer to unrelated entities. It is distinct from orthographic drift (misspellings of an in-scope term) and from locality co-occurrence (place or address tokens captured in the same session). All three classes appear in the present dataset and are handled in §7.

1. Why a Peptide Keyword Dataset Contains "Simple Minds"

Transaction-log analyses of nine commercial search engines found that the modal web query is two to three terms long, that single-term queries remain common and that users rarely apply operators that would disambiguate sense [1]. Sanderson's analysis of ambiguous queries against test collections showed that a large fraction of head terms carry more than one sense, and that evaluation collections systematically under-represent this ambiguity [2]. A research-peptide catalogue whose brand contains a common adjective therefore inherits every other sense of that adjective: the Scottish band, the manicure style, the Florida tide table. Attribution engines assign the click to whichever indexed page ranked, and the export inherits the string.

The practical consequence for a research-reference site is not that these strings should be targeted but that they should be resolved: each token is mapped to its nearest legitimate referent, or explicitly declined. That is the same discipline Peptide Insider applied to compound orthography in the FOXO4/melanotan orthography review and to vendor tokens in the vendor-anchored query review. Four of the homonyms have a real peptide neighbour, reviewed in §2–§5.

2. "Simple Eye" and the Ocular-Surface Thymosin β4 Literature

Thymosin β4 (Tβ4) is the 43-residue G-actin-sequestering protein reviewed in the TB-500 versus Tβ4 identity review. Its ocular-surface programme is the most clinically advanced strand of Tβ4 research and the natural referent for an "eye" token. In a murine alkali-injury model, topical Tβ4 accelerated corneal re-epithelialisation and reduced polymorphonuclear infiltration relative to vehicle [3]. A randomised, placebo-controlled Phase II trial of 0.1% Tβ4 ophthalmic solution (RGN-259) in 72 dry-eye subjects using the controlled adverse environment model reported reductions in ocular discomfort and inferior corneal fluorescein staining [4]; a smaller Phase 2 study in severe dry eye (n=9) reported improvement in both signs and symptoms over a 28-day course with persistence at follow-up [5]. In the NOD.B10.H2b mouse dry-eye model, RGN-259 was compared head-to-head with cyclosporine, lifitegrast, diquafosol and rebamipide on staining and conjunctival goblet-cell endpoints [6]. Sosne and Kleinman's 2016 review situates these findings within the broader neurotrophic-keratopathy literature [7]. None of this converts "simple eye" into a product term; it converts it into a pointer to a specific trial record.

3. "Simple Sleep" and Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide

The nearest peptide entity to a "sleep" token is DSIP, the nonapeptide Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu (WAGGDASGE) isolated by Monnier and Schoenenberger from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits in electrically induced sleep. In 1977 the group reported that the synthetic nonapeptide reproduced the physicochemical and electrophysiological properties of the native isolate [8], and that intravenous administration in rabbits increased delta-band EEG power while reducing motor activity [9]. Three decades later Kovalzon and Strekalova described DSIP as "a still unresolved riddle": no precursor gene has been identified in any genome, the peptide is unusually susceptible to proteolysis, and replication of the original sleep phenotype has been inconsistent [10]. Peptide Insider's PE-22-28 / Dihexa / DSIP review covers the community-forum vocabulary around the compound. Strings such as dsip peptides are recorded as nomenclature; dsip protocol and dsip peptide buy are declined.

4. "Simple Addiction" and Neuropeptides in Addiction Models

Behavioural pharmacology has used several endogenous peptides as tools in rodent models of drug-seeking. Thiele and colleagues showed in Nature that mice lacking neuropeptide Y consumed more ethanol and were less sensitive to its sedative effects, whereas NPY-overexpressing mice showed the reverse, establishing an inverse relationship between NPY tone and ethanol consumption [11]. McGregor and Bowen reviewed evidence that oxytocin attenuates self-administration and reinstatement across methamphetamine, alcohol and other drug classes in rodents [12]; the nonapeptide itself is profiled in Peptide Insider's oxytocin research review. Ciccocioppo's group reviewed the nociceptin/orphanin FQ–NOP system in Marchigian Sardinian alcohol-preferring rats, where N/OFQ reduced ethanol intake and relapse-like behaviour [13]. These are mechanistic model systems; the token "simple addiction" is recorded as a homonym that points at them, not as a clinical descriptor.

5. "Simplest Protein": the Peptide–Protein Boundary and Minimal Bioactive Sequences

There is no simplest protein in a rigorous sense, because "protein" is conventionally reserved for chains of roughly fifty or more residues with a defined fold. Below that boundary lie the shortest sequences that carry measurable biological activity, and these are the honest answer to the query. Kyotorphin, the dipeptide L-tyrosyl-L-arginine isolated from bovine brain, produced naloxone-reversible analgesia in mice and was proposed to act through Met-enkephalin release [14]. Carnosine, β-alanyl-L-histidine, is a millimolar constituent of skeletal muscle and brain whose proton-buffering, carbonyl-scavenging and metal-chelating chemistry was reviewed in Physiological Reviews [15]. Among tripeptides, GHK (Gly-His-Lys) and its copper complex alter the expression of repair-associated gene sets in fibroblast and array studies [16] and are covered in the GHK-Cu review; glutathione (γ-Glu-Cys-Gly), the cell's dominant low-molecular-weight thiol, is covered in the glutathione review. The tetrapeptide Ac-SDKP, a prolyl-oligopeptidase product of Tβ4, carries anti-fibrotic signalling in cardiovascular tissue [17].

Two adjacent nutritional strings belong here. simple nutritions and simple truth collagen peptides are grocery and supplement brand tokens and are declined as brands; the underlying chemistry, however, is legitimate: Iwai and colleagues detected Pro-Hyp and related di- and tripeptides in human plasma after ingestion of gelatin hydrolysates, demonstrating peptide-form absorption of collagen fragments [18]. The token simple body is likewise an adjective–noun homonym whose nearest catalogue neighbour is body-composition model vocabulary; the relevant compound is AOD9604, the hGH 177–191 fragment that retained a lipid-metabolism signal in ob/ob and β3-adrenoceptor knock-out mice without the intact hormone [19], profiled in the AOD-9604 review. Finally, l glutathione peptide is correctly a peptide, whereas carnitine peptide and b12 peptides are misclassifications: L-carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound and cobalamin a corrinoid, neither containing a peptide bond.

7. Out-of-Scope Query Crosswalk

Table 2 lists every out-of-scope string in the dataset verbatim, its error class, and the RUO scope status Peptide Insider assigns. "Recorded" strings are indexed as terminology with a literature pointer; "Declined" strings are catalogued for completeness only and carry no research content. Misspellings of the adjective simple are grouped by keyboard-adjacency mechanism, following the error-class scheme used for compound names elsewhere on the site. No vendor is assessed or endorsed.

8. Research Reagent Availability

The peptides discussed above — thymosin β4 fragments, DSIP, oxytocin, GHK-Cu, glutathione and the hGH 177–191 fragment — are catalogued as lyophilised research reagents by Short Chain Aminos, BioPep, Catalyst Research and Apex Research Services. Listings are noted for research availability only; purity, identity and counter-ion documentation should be evaluated against the vendor-independent criteria in the supplier-evaluation guide. Nothing in this section constitutes a recommendation of any supplier or of any use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is "homonym drift" in a peptide keyword dataset?

Homonym drift is the accumulation of query strings that share a surface token with a catalogue (here the adjective "simple") but refer to unrelated entities: an album, a nail design, a tide chart. Transaction-log studies show that short, ambiguous queries dominate web search [1][2], so any referral export will carry such noise. Classifying it explicitly is more useful than deleting it.

Is "simple eye" a peptide product?

No. It is an out-of-scope homonym. The nearest peptide research topic is the ocular-surface thymosin β4 programme (RGN-259), which has a mouse alkali-injury study [3], two Phase 2 dry-eye trials [4][5] and a comparative animal-model study [6]. Peptide Insider records the string as terminology only; it does not describe any ophthalmic use.

What does "simple sleep" correspond to in the research literature?

Nothing directly. The closest peptide entity is delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP), a nonapeptide isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood in the 1970s [8][9] whose precursor gene has never been identified [10]. The string is recorded as a homonym, not as a product.

Is there such a thing as the "simplest protein"?

Not in a strict sense, because "protein" conventionally denotes chains of roughly 50 or more residues. Below that boundary sit the minimal bioactive peptides: the dipeptides kyotorphin (Tyr-Arg) [14] and carnosine (β-Ala-His) [15], the tripeptides GHK [16] and glutathione, and the tetrapeptide Ac-SDKP [17].

Why does a peptide keyword list contain "boynton beach tide chart"?

Locality co-occurrence. Address and place-name tokens enter a referral log when they share a browsing session with vendor queries. They are classified as Declined-locality and carry no research content.

Does "simple body" refer to a research compound?

No. It is an adjective–noun homonym. The nearest catalogue neighbour is body-composition model vocabulary around AOD9604, the hGH 177–191 fragment studied in obese mouse models [19]; the string itself is recorded as terminology only.
